Bohus-Malmön

Bohus-Malmön is located north of the entrance to Brofjorden and southwest of the entrance to Åbyfjorden, just off the Sotenäs coast. A walk up to the island’s water tower offers views of Smögen and Kungshamn to the west and Lysekil to the south. The island covers a total area of 4.38 square kilometers and “emerged” after the retreat of the inland ice about 2,000 years ago. Most of the settlement is on the eastern shore, and today, the island is home to around 250 permanent residents. During the summer (industrial vacation period), it likely hosts over 3,000 people.

Bohus-Malmön is at the heart of a unique archipelago environment in the beautiful Bohuslän archipelago. Historically, the island was primarily known as a fishing community and home to Sweden’s first granite quarry. Today, it is celebrated for its diverse surroundings, where the sea meets cliffs in perfect harmony.
